What to Pack for a Nile Cruise

What to Pack for a Nile Cruise

5 min read

Packing for the Nile is mostly about light layers, sun protection and a little modesty for the temples. Here is everything you actually need aboard a dahabiya.

Clothing

Pack light, breathable layers in natural fabrics — cotton and linen. Days are warm and evenings on deck can be cool, so bring a light wrap or jacket.

For temples and villages, choose modest options that cover shoulders and knees. A scarf is useful for sun, for cooler evenings and for sacred sites.

Footwear

Comfortable, closed walking shoes or sturdy sandals for the temples, which have uneven ground. Flip-flops or deck shoes are handy on board.

Sun and health

A wide-brimmed hat, high-SPF sunscreen, sunglasses and a refillable water bottle are essentials. Add any personal medication, insect repellent and a small first-aid kit.

On board the dahabiya

Bring swimwear for the plunge pool, a good book or binoculars for the riverbank, and a camera. Egypt uses European-style two-pin plugs (Type C/F), so pack an adapter.
